LU Xiyun, YE Xiangdong, YANG Jinlong and YU Shuhong

On Nov 22th, the results of the 2019 CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) academician selection were officially announced to the public. This time, CAS has added 64 Chinese nationals and 20 foreign experts, including 8 USTC professors and 1 USTC foreign professor.

Four professors: Lu Xiyun, YE Xiangdong, YANG Jinlong and YU Shuhong, as well as four double employed professors and doctoral supervisors: CHANG Jin, CHEN Xuesi, XIANG Libin and WU Yichan, were elected as CAS academicians, and Anton Zeilinger, an honorary professor of USTC was elected as CAS foreign academicians.

Of the new Chinese academicians, 3 are from math and physics fields, 3 from chemistry, 1 from information technologies, 1 from engineering sciences.

Math and Physics Fields

CHANG Jin has been engaged in the detection technology and scientific experimental research of space gamma rays, high-energy charged particles, especially electrons, and he is one of the academic leaders in the field of space astronomy in China.

LU Xiyun has devoted himself to large eddy simulation, direct numerical simulation, biological motion mechanics, microgravity hydrodynamics and other research for a long time.

YE Xiangdong has been engaged in the research of topological dynamical system, ergodic theory and their application in basic mathematics.

Chemistry

CHEN Xuesi，the main research direction is: polymer gene carrier, drug sustained release, etc.

YANG Jinlong，long-term commitment to applied quantum chemistry research. YU Shuhong，has studied in biomimetic synthesis and functionalization of inorganic materials over a long period of time.

Information Technologies

XIANG Libin is mainly engaged in the research of optical engineering and space technology.

Engineering Sciences

WU Yican is mainly engaged in interdisciplinary research of nuclear energy science and engineering, radiation medicine physics and application, computer simulation and software engineering.

Foreign Academician

Anton zeilinger has been engaged in quantum physics and quantum information research for a long time, and he is also an important pioneer in the field of quantum physics basic test and quantum information in the world. He actively promoted international academic exchanges and cooperation between China and Austria. His team participated in the intercontinental quantum communication experiment led by CAS, and realized the quantum secure communication between Beijing and Vienna for the first time in the world.

In addition, according to the statistics of USTC Alumni Association, a total of 16 alumni of USTC were elected among the newly added academicians in 2019, including 14 CAS academicians and 2 CAE (Chinese Academy of engineering) academicians. Besides, many graduate students from USTC had also been honored.
